| Naturally with where we are at in the manga/anime, there are quite a few compelling mysteries. This thread can be used to discuss many of the current theories/mysteries, or simply be used to discuss things others may not have got around to yet, like the latest anime episode or manga chapter. As a side note, using spoiler tags would probably be a safe bet just so people don't unintentionally spoil themselves. (Now I'm not sure about the rules to linking to manga scanlations, so I've only provided some context with minimal panels used to better explain everything. Images can easily be removed if this is a problem) AnimeMost Recent Subbed Episode - 806 (Next Episode on February 10th) Current RAW Episode - Episode 807 (Next Episode on February 13th) MangaMost Recent Scanlation - 949 Current RAW File - 950 Official English Manga - Volume 57 MovieLatest subbed movie is 19. Movie 20 promo and trailer are available to watch here: http://www.conan-movie.jp/- Who is the Mystery Girl? File 875-939 / Episode 756 - Current (File 909+ has not received an anime adaptation yet):
Manga CanonSome background information on this character. This character first debuted in Episode 756/File 875 on Masumi Sera's phone. Sera lies to Conan about losing her phone, asking Conan to call her phone to find it. The picture was shown right after receiving a call, meaning that Sera was purposefully showing her the picture of the child. At this point it was unclear whether the child was a female/male, and Masumi had never mentioned having any younger siblings... If you look closely you can tell that the child shares a relation to both Akai Shuichi and Masumi Sera based on their facial features, notably the "bags" under their eyes. In the very next case, we see a much more in-depth look of the Mystery Child, which sparks some serious discussion about who this child might be. In File 877, Conan sees the "little girl who looks like Sera" in the hallway, remarking that she appears to be middle-school age (This will be referenced further down in this section). At the end of the case (File 878), Masumi and the Mystery Child are seen dissecting Conan's listening device, saying she hasn't seen "this type" before. This alludes to the fact that she is quite savvy, and intelligent. She is very cautious and is not nearly as willing to trust Conan as Sera is, and almost seems to be the one that is directing Sera. This panel is where most fans have come to the conclusion that the Mystery Child is a shrunken adult. Furthermore, when this file got its anime adaptation (Episode 760), we heard this character's voice for the first time. Not that this should really play a role in it... but the child's voice actor is Atsuko Tanaka, a seiyuu who is known for voicing mature character roles. She is especially known for voicing Motoko Kusanagi from Ghost in the Shell. Hearing her voice, for some has helped facilitate the shrunken adult claim. After this point, the Mystery Girl fades from the scenes for about 20 chapters. In the Shogi case (Manga 899-902, Episode 785-786) she briefly reappears giving us some extra clues. In the ending scene, she is especially happy after witnessing Shuukichi Haneda's Shogi win, as he just obtained all seven tiles. Akai Shuichi (as Subaru) is also seen smiling at an article related to Shuukichi's win... but most importantly, in the manga panel of this case, something that the anime doesn't explicitly state, it suggests that there is a surprising connection between these three characters. In the very next case, it seems as though Sera, the Mystery Child, and Conan are going to meet... however, this is interrupted because Conan accidentally brought Sonoko and Ran along. The Mystery Child is still cautious, saying that if things don't work out that they would have to find a new "stronghold". More importantly, at the end of the file, Ran recalls yet again, meeting a young Sera, but... the Mystery Child too? How could that be given her age? While she is only shown in the background in File 928-930 (her most recent appearance), we learn a few significant facts... First and foremost, we have a quick conversation between Masumi Sera and Yumi Miyamoto. Both of them are seen directly quoting Shuukichi Haneda from his first appearance, which basically reveals him to be the "mysterious middle brother", unless of course you believe the middle brother to be a clone of sorts. They also try to contact him at the same time, but only one gets through at a time. Though the topic/speculation of the middle brother's identity will be addressed in a different post... Now throughout this file, and not one, but several times, Ogura (the restaurant owner) mistakenly calls Masumi Sera "Mari-chan". This is due to a handkerchief that he found with the word "Mary" embroidered on it. Conan comes to the conclusion that the handkerchief either belongs to the little girl, and is her real name, or it could be Sera's real name... He also remembers hearing the name before (how convenient). More than likely when Shinichi and Ran have their flashback showing their connection to Sera, the MG will be present. In File 939, Conan reflects on some past happenings and thinks that the MG's name is most likely Mary. He also thinks that other than the MG she resembles someone else. The context of "rather than" in this scene doesn't seem to imply that there is someone else that the MG resembles more, as it is quite obvious that Sera and the MG have a very similar physical appearance, but simply there is someone else. The other option is that the MG doesn't resemble Sera, but Sera resembles the MG, hence the correction. Who could he be referring to? Probably Haibara. The Sherry's Soliloquy for File 877 suggests that Haibara resembles the MG in some way. In File 941, Conan reaffirms what we originally suspected. He seems to be drawing some sort of connection from Haibara to the MG. He thinks they either look alike, or more likely they are related. It is looking more like that the two mothers that Gosho mentioned will turn out to be Mary and Elena Miyano. In 942, Conan briefly touches up on the situation, thinking that they might be related, and that of course means Akemi and Akai could be related as well. Speculation/TheoriesNow the most popular theory regarding the Mystery Girl is that she is Masumi Sera and Akai Shuichi's mother, and is shrunken by APTX4869, Silver Bullet, or something similar. The main problem with this is we really don't know how APTX4869 works. The common misconception is that it de-ages a person by 10 years, which simply isn't the case. The only two canon examples we have of people who have been shrunk are Shiho Miyano and Shinichi Kudo, which are roughly the same age, only being a couple years apart. In File 177-178, Haibara directly states that it reverts them back to a "child's age" with some Japanese translators saying the term she used was supposed to be directed towards 6-7 year olds. This is potentially a problem because Conan has said that the MG appears to be a middle schooler (12-15). That being said, this still does not rule out the possibility of having something to do with Silver Bullet, or that the drug might react differently to someone much older. There isn't a good sample size for us to say either. One of the biggest hints (File 859) is that both Akai and Masumi resemble their mother, while the middle-brother resembles their presumably deceased father. Shuukichi Haneda doesn't directly resemble Shuuichi or Masumi, so it would fit. The only family members mentioned have been a mother (living in America), a father (deceased), a smart middle brother, a strong older brother, and Sera. It is not explicitly stated that they resemble their mother, but it's a good assumption based on the context of the file. Now although a bit subtle, Sera basically suggests that Ran has met her mother before in File 778(Episode 651), which would make sense if Ran and Shinichi met Sera as a child, and her mother was present. Furthermore, according to some comments on DCW, the Japanese RAW indicated that Sera said that her mother had large breasts, meaning for some reason that she doesn't now... (Though I can not verify this bit, they said past tense was used) However... Sera also said that her mother was STILL living in America... but this can easily be viewed as a lie. If the little girl is the mother, Sera obviously doesn't want her to meet with Ran and Sonoko, and the MG is even hesitant about meeting Conan. The other thing to note in this file (876) is that Sera is supported by a rich family friend... It is speculated that James Black is the one supporting her, as he has a connection between the Akai family, and is the only person who knew Masumi's gender at a quick glance (File 780). There are also several British connections surrounding several characters, such as Amuro Tooru, Elena Miyano, Masumi Sera, James Black, and the Mystery Child, but this is something that can be explained elsewhere before I go off on a tangent. The main point that I want to get across is that Gosho said that two mothers would be revealed as sisters, and many are assuming that the two sisters in question will be the Mystery Child and Elena Miyano. There's also a chart that originated on baidu/weibo (Chinese websites) suggesting that The Mystery Child was MI6. (This is a reference to "sister from outside the domain", but domain can also be translated as territory) Canon by Author / Gundam ReferencesAnyways... about the Mystery Girl's name being Mary... Well this is probably the case for a couple different reasons, and not just from obvious reasons given at the end of File 930 (shown above with the handkerchief). In an AC hint from September 2014, Gosho said that the Mystery Girl's name was ____rii (〇〇リー) - In File 930 the katakana used (メアリー) fits this hint. The name Mary could be a Gundam reference to Soma Peries/Marie Parfacy. This wouldn't be strange seeing as how Masumi Sera, and Akai Shuichi all reference Gundam. (See this wiki entry: http://gundam.wikia.com/wiki/Soma_Peries - the katakana used here also matches the hint マリー) Atsuko Tanaka (The Mystery Girl's voice actress) also played a role in Mobile Suit Victory Gundam as Juca Meilasch. As mentioned before, her voice actress is known for her role as Motoko Kusanagi in Ghost in the Shell. The English VA who played this character was Mary Elizabeth McGlynn. Don't read into this too much, I just thought it was another funny coincidence regarding the MG's possible name. This is all I have to add on the Mystery Girl for now. I may add/edit in a couple sections as time goes by, or add something referencing the British connections between the aforementioned characters.
- Enter the Rum Arc! File 898-925 / Episode 783 - Current (File 909+ has not received an anime adaptation):
With the conclusion of the Bourbon Arc/Scarlet Arc, we are now introduced to a potentially terrifying foe, a new, and likely the last Black Organization member, Rum. Manga CanonRight off the bat Akai mentions that Rum is close to the boss, and has only heard the name just a few times when he infiltrated the organization. Despite never meeting Rum or knowing much about him, he says that he is even more important than Gin... And with that we have started another major story arc. It is speculated that the series may be headed towards a conclusion now that we are investigating the boss's close adviser. With File 906, we receive some more information about Rum. Haibara confirms what Akai said as true, that Rum is close to the boss, particularly that he is Number Two. Anyways, she mentions that he has been described as old, feminine, and strong. This can allude to a couple of different things. Either these are rumors and essentially mean nothing, as they could have been spread by Rum himself to better protect his identity, Rum can fit all three of these characteristics in some way, that he uses disguises, or that has has employed body doubles. Now at the end of the case (File 908), Haibara reveals a particularly surprising trait about Rum... Something that was always the same across the board. Yes he has a prosthetic eye! This should certainly narrow down the suspects, though prosthetic eyes these days can be rather hard to identify, so it might be something we could easily look over. More information on this further down! Rum's identity is... Just kidding... After this point, we really don't get any significant information on Rum, however, we are entering the phase where we are considering suspects. The only thing mentioned in 909 is that Conan didn't want to get Hattori involved because he doesn't have enough information on Rum, so it's not to say that Hattori won't play a role in the Rum arc, just like he did in the Vermouth arc. After the Kamaitachi Case (File 909-912), we get the Kawanakajima, or the Woodpecker Case (File 913-917) where things start to get serious. Right after Kansuke Yamato appears, Conan starts thinking that he fits the description of Rum. He has one eye, has an athletic build, can be perceived as old because he walks with a cane, and feminine because he can let his long hair down. Now Kansuke is mostly just used as a model of what to possibly look for, and is not really an actual suspect, but I'll elaborate on that a bit later. Kansuke has one major contradiction. First of all, he does not have a prosthetic eye, and he really doesn't appear to be "stocky". However... at the end of File 913, we are introduced to a new Police member, First Division Chief of the Nagano Prefecture, Hyoue Kuroda. Kuroda is suspicious off the bat. He's an older man, has a stocky build, and has a prosthetic eye, but this isn't just why he is overly suspicious. Could he possibly be Rum? In File 914, it is mentioned that Kuroda recently came out of a 10 year coma, looking like a different person. His black hair had turned completely white, and he is missing some of his memory. Furthermore in File 916, Kuroda somehow suddenly knows that Conan is the brain behind Sleeping Kogoro, but this isn't too suspicious in of itself. Given Kuroda's position, and that Yui, Kansuke, and Komei have all noticed Conan's intelligence, it's probably just a rumor floating around in the Nagano prefecture. That said, Kuroda is very direct and seems almost certain about it. Supporting this is Yui and Kansuke's conversation in File 680. At the end of the Kawanakajima case (File 917) nothing else in particularly is revealed, though there is some slight foreshadowing in the following panel that will become relevant in the next case. (Kuroda is on the phone, and this later will reveal he is being transferred) In the start of the new case (File 918), Kuroda is mentioned to Ai as first appearing to be suspicious, especially that he knows so much about him despite never meeting Conan. That being said, he seems quick to dismiss this and doesn't think there is anything to worry about. At the end of the case, Kuroda makes a very suspicious appearance. Why is he there? In any case, he seems to congratulate Conan on solving the case, once again calling him the brains behind Sleeping Kogoro. He also declares himself to be Kiyonaga Matsumoto's replacement. Could this mean anything in particular? (As you may already known, Matsumoto's voice actor, Seizō Katō, unfortunately passed away last year in January. This may be their way of writing him off) Anyways the significant bit of 920 in terms of plot is that Ai appears to sense the Black Organization aura, or looks incredibly shocked to see Kuroda in the final panel. Rum confirmed? To wrap up Kuroda, at least with the information we have... in File 925, Ai basically dismisses that Kuroda is Rum, saying she did not sense the aura, and that he had a rather "shocking" appearance. This was also brought up in Sherry's Soliloquy, not that it really means anything. There was also an AC hint back in November: (Heart) - Kuroda-keiji... is very scary (^_^ Furthermore she suggests that if Rum had got a close look at her, the Professor's house would have already been ransacked. This of course is valid with what we already know. If the organization were to see Ai, they would remember her youthful image. Pisco and Vermouth both know her real identity. With that being said, it's unlikely that Kuroda is Rum, or that Rum has met Shiho after she has shrunk (though he does supposedly have memory loss). Though I do want to mention that in one case, Ai explicitly states that she does not sense the organization aura from a former organization member, Ki'ichiro Numabuchi. (File 359-360) There could be several different reasons for this. First of all it has to be mentioned that Numabuchi was considered useless by the organization, has mental issues, and is a serial killer. He's also been rather void of feelings, and is completely driven by panic, attempting to kill anyone in the process. He had also killed someone before becoming part of the organization. Though this goes to say he drew a likeness to Mitsuhiko because they came to that specific forest for the same reason... (if you really wanted to try and humanize him) Shiho also never met him and only knows of him because of the files she received telling her to use him as a test subject for APTX4869. It also could be because Ai is in her own words, "starting to lead a normal life", however, this would contradict itself later in the series when she senses Bourbon's aura in Detective's Nocturne, Vermouth on several occasion, and Akai Shuichi/Okiya Subaru. I think it's safe to say that Ai has not met Bourbon prior to this either. You might be able to make a case for this if you believe Kuroda's mindset and history of the organization is blanked from his memory, which might result in Ai not being able to sense the aura from him, though this is really a stretch... Last bit on this train of thought... Ai's first mention of sensing the aura came in the Mysterious Passenger Case (Episode 230-231, File 287-289). Someone asked me on G+ not too long ago about why Ai never sensed Vermouth as Araide during Desperate Revival, or Gin/Pisco/Vermouth during the Haido City Hotel case, and the simple answer is that this mechanic was not formally introduced yet. If she didn't sense anything when an organization member was present, prior to this file, this is the reason why. Though in 230-231 she does say she sensed Pisco/Vermouth from the Hotel case, and that Vermouth's scent was overpowering Pisco. Canon by AuthorThe only other information we have on Rum is from Gosho Aoyama's animal crossing hints. In September of 2014, Gosho Aoyama mentioned that Rum had already appeared: (Diamond) - The truth is, Rum has already appeared (laughs) - Not that this hint shouldn't be taken seriously, but this assumes that any characters introduced after File 906 are invalid and can not be Rum. We should definitely still look at characters that have already appeared and see if they are worth suspecting. This hint in particular is troublesome because Gosho could have been referring to "Lum", as she made a cameo on File 906. Furthermore, there was a Sherry Soliloquy panel talking about her as well. What I really want to draw at is something else though... Back in 2007, Gosho Aoyama drew a panel for Shonen Sunday honoring Urusei Yatsura's Lum. Though this isn't strange in itself since Gosho has expressed his appreciation for Rumiko Takahashi and her works. Anyways, it's that Gosho drew her as the organization member, Rum. This hint could easily be referring to his earlier Lum panel, and it is followed by a laugh (though Gosho laughs at pretty much everything). Here is the translated interview that went with that panel: To be honest, I’m at a loss (laughs). Well, I don’t think this is a right place to write my personal problems, but my manga “Case Closed” has lazily continued over ten years and a lot of members from the Conan’s rivalrous Syndicate have appeared over the course of the story. Gin, Vodka, Tequila, Sherry and Vermouth etc… Yeah, their names are all from liquors. And the last name I have not use yet, but the most famous and coolest one It’s “Rum”… But this name curved in the heart of all of manga fans from all over Japan, no, all over the world. And everyone knows..who qualifies for this name. I myself know it more than anyone else. Never USE IT-----! I could possibly never use it!! This oni girl appears on pages in aggressive ways, and Attracts innocent fans with her cute appearance, sexy body and destructive electric shocks. And still now she is mastering the centers of their hearts! Probably she will do so in the future…like Astro Boy of Osamu Tezuka-sensei… …..But someday I will use the name ……Please forgive me with laughs when I do it. ……Oh, woe is me!.... (Laughs) In the September AC hints, Gosho also mentioned this: (Diamond) - Kan-chan has nothing to do with Rum (Diamond) - Kan-chan is not Rum Fan Theories/SpeculationThere are some theories that suggest that Rum will be involved in the police force and is part of the higher ups. We don't know what his objective is, or why is he is suddenly on the move. Movie 20 (while not-canon) might suggest that Bourbon and Kir's identities as spies are about to be revealed, and that Rum will have something to do with weeding out spies in the organization. Movie 20 - Teaser TrailerOf course, Gin has mentioned this in the past, and there are quite a few spies that we know have infiltrated the organization. We know about Ethan Hondou (CIA), Hidemi Hondou (CIA), Rei Furuya (Secret Police), Scotch (Secret Police), Akai Shuichi (FBI), with of course, only two code-named agents known to be spies that are still alive and inside the organization. In a recent AC hint, Gosho mentioned: (Clover) - Rum will also be in the next movie~ Now this is particularly interesting because we have little information on Rum and he could potentially debut in Movie 20 on April 16th. If he supposedly makes a direct appearance in the movie, this means he should be revealed in the manga relatively soon. That said, the question is how he will appear. He could appear as a silhouette, as a voice over a phone, or any other overly subtle way. The situation, as it stands now, is not like Movie 18's reveal where we had significant amount of information already suggesting that Subaru Okiya was Akai Shuichi. Prosthetic EyeIt is also worth noting how Gosho portrays a prosthetic eye. There are two characters that are known to have an artificial eye, one in Magic Kaito (Goudzou), and one in Detective Conan (Hyoue Kuroda). Both of these characters are drawn the same way in the manga, with the glasses shaded on the side with the fake eye. Here is how A-1 pictures portrayed Goudzou in the anime (Magic Kaito 1412), though something to note is that Kuroda might be portrayed differently by TMS Entertainment. It is also possible that we got a glimpse of Rum's eyes in the new promo video for Movie 20 - Though I'm going to suggest that this is not the case as it's not even the real trailer, and I don't think they'd spoil something so early. Good way to generate hype though... Most likely a movie character or something to get people talking. Edit: To elaborate on this, the eyes are supposed to appear "heterochromatic" not necessarily alluding to a prosthetic. The eyes were changed on the official movie poster, new year's greeting cards, as well as the 7th surprise. This character now has two blue eyes (but still different shades of blue). As an added note, this character is almost certainly a woman, and the guest character for the movie and not Rum. The Yellow/Blue eyes were shown in the official trailer, but this will likely be corrected in the next release. SuspectsHere will be a section enlisting possible Rum suspects, with any evidence/claims to back it up. Hyoue KurodaThis character is unlikely to be Rum for a couple reasons. First and foremost, he has seen Haibara, and she has sensed no aura, nor has Kuroda taken any action. This is the damning evidence for a majority of would be suspects. Second, if the hint back in September is true, Rum had already appeared prior to Kuroda's appearance. Lastly, it's pretty typical for Gosho to introduce a red herring or two before getting to a reveal. He's too suspicious to be Rum... Kansuke YamatoThis character is not Rum. It was explicitly stated by the author, and there are too many contradictions. If you want to disregard the hint, he first of all, does not have a prosthetic eye. Second, he has met Haibara and she has sensed nothing from him, nor has he taken any action. Taka'aki Morofushi / KomeiThis character is unlikely to be Rum, but it's worth noting that this is the only member of the Nagano prefecture police that Haibara hasn't met. He's noticed Conan's intelligence and likened him to one of his favorite strategists, and seems to have a strong sense of justice. He also is rather "young" and Kansuke's child-hood friend. The boss's close adviser doesn't have to be old, so this is just fan speculation. He's also subtlety alluded to some things, such as "a black sheep can wreak havoc from within the flock". Komei does not appear to have a prosthetic, and it's hard to imagine him as "stocky", "old", or "feminine". Komei is intelligent, perceptive, and very collected. Sakurako YoneharaThis character is unlikely to be Rum. Notably, you'd have to assume that Rum should be a man since Gosho has never deviated from using wines for women and strong liquors for men, and second, she doesn't fit any of the other supposed traits Rum has. However, she has noticed Conan's double personality, and makes sporadic appearances throughout the series, even earning her the key-hole spot for Volume 87. She is also a house-keeper, which would be a ridiculous outfit for someone such as Rum, and is probably going to be a reoccurring character simply because she is Chiba and Naeko's childhood friend, all the more reason to dismiss her as a candidate. The Old Man from Camel's PastNow assuming this is a "new" character, he would potentially fit as Rum. His eyes were never clearly portrayed in the manga, and only one was shown in the anime. He was also shown again in File 896. This character was also roughly introduced at the same time Gosho had thoughts about introducing a character known as Rum. Contradictory evidence here is that he definitely could be Bourbon in disguise, nor does he appear "stocky" or "feminine". He never spoke, and he wore similar garb that Bourbon is known to wear. Kiyonaga MatsumotoMatsumoto is most likely not Rum. Though he has never met Haibara, but there is some contradictory evidence for Matsumoto to be a BO candidate. First of all, it has to be said that he appeared in a photograph, 3 years in the future. This doesn't dismiss him as a candidate in of itself, but it's unlikely that Gosho ever had plans for him to be a BO agent. He's also got an incredibly strong sense of justice. Mainly people suspect Matsumoto of being Rum because he has some facial scarring, possibly alluding to a prosthetic, but his eye does not appear to be damaged. His voice actor also passed away last year in January, and Kuroda replaced Kiyonaga, with Matsumoto being promoted. This could potentially be a way of writing this character off, as he barely appeared in the first place. Heizo HattoriThis character is unlikely to be Rum, though people have noticed he has some "quirky" eye habits. First of all, he's the Osaka Police Chief and has a strong sense of justice, and a son who could potentially make things problematic for him. He's never met Haibara. He doesn't appear to have a prosthetic eye, but his eyes are mostly shown closed, like Okiya Subaru. He is known to open only one eye at a time when he speaks. It goes to say that there isn't really any reason to suspect Heizo, though some people like to think that he'll turn out to be the boss or Rum for some reason. He also seems to be very dedicated to his job, with Heiji being regarded as his younger split image, albeit a bit hot-headed.
*DISCLAIMER* - I did not come up with the following theories. They are only referenced here, all in one spot to provide a clear, streamlined explanation of sorts. Rum post is in progress. Still have some things to add to it. - Episode 795 - Light Spoilers/Synopsis:
This episode is an Anime Original and a Detective Boys' case. That said, it's almost expected that people would think it's terrible, but... this is one of my favorite AO episodes in a long time.
To elaborate on this, it was a nostalgia rush of sorts. Basically, Ayumi is witness to a "murder", and without no solid proof they want to investigate. After overhearing a conversation between the suspect and his mistress, Conan decides to look into it after all. The man takes off in his car, and the Detective Boys break into his house looking for clues. So we all know where this is going... Well, naturally, the man comes back, and Conan and Co. split, with Ayumi tragically deciding to go back into the house at the last minute because she forgot something. Ayumi is kidnapped and Conan chases down the suspect on his Turbo-Engine Skateboard.
Aside from this being your typical Detective Boys case, with some of the DB's most annoying tropes coming through, it's very pleasurable to watch. The animation is done very well. The mystery aspect is a bit obvious, as most AOs often don't deliver in that field, but this is something I can recommend watching!

| - Episode 796:
This wasn't a terrible AO, but it was average at best. This AO features Kogoro, Conan, Megure, and Takagi. The trick wasn't surprising in the slightest, though the end of the episode was a bit "different" and a bit funny. The animation felt weird in a couple different places. I don't really have much to say about it, just that it's mediocre. It pales in comparison to last weeks AO imo
- File 934 Spoiler Summary:
Summary from presumenothing.tumblr.com people – Naitou Tetsuto (director), Kawabata Ria (actress), Harawaki Takashi (producer), Ejiri Kyouko (camerawoman), Baishou Orie (lighting), Ninomiya Masahachi (sound) + Naitou Jouji (Tetsuto’s brother, director from 8 years ago)
Heiji says that the bloody penknife was used to cut Kyouko’s neck, and asks the zombies outside the window if anything/anyone left through it – they say that no one has opened the window for the past hour
Conan asked the zombies outside the window at the end of the hallway too – they don’t remember who entered which room, but no one moved the body out of the room
Heiji says this means someone hid the body in the room, and starts a search to no avail at which point it’s revealed that this is the same room where Jouji was found dead by Ria and Kyouko, and a flat cart went missing even before Jouji disappeared
a swirly-eyed Ran appears to say that the zombies have brought a police officer from Gunma – it’s Yamamura, who attempts to ward off the zombies with prayer beads his grandmother gave him (because he runs into supernatural cases so often)
it’s also revealed that no one watched the footage from 8 years ago (Jouji said he would edit it himself) – Harawaki told Ninomiya he saved the footage from 8 years ago on his tablet, but all the content has been deleted
Orie shows a group photo she took of everyone from 8 years ago – Kyouko was wearing a shirt with “E” (for her first name) which she had in several colours – and says that Kyouko had mentioned wanting to shower and change clothes during a break in filming Kazuha says that there were no spare toilet rolls left when she went to the restroom earlier, but one reappeared when she went just now, which leads to…
p15: Heiji “But, the usage of that thing, I think I…” Conan “Understand it now…” Ran “Eh? Conan-kun understands it too?” Conan “Ah, no…” “I was just imitating Heiji-niichan…”
Yamamura’s prayer beads break, scattering the beads everywhere – one which fell into the open top drawer somehow rolls out from the bottom drawer, and the two detectives realise something from this…?

p2: Heiji “This is bad… if this goes on, the zombie will really be treated as the murderer…” Conan “Yeah…” “Then, as usual, we’ll solve the mystery together…” Heiji “Then I’ll leave the toilet roll to you, and take charge of this delicious deduction…” Kazuha “Those two are really close…” Ran “Yeah…”
so it turns out that Heiji and Kazuha didn’t ride the bike all the way from Osaka (they took the shinkansen/bullet train to Tokyo and rented a bike from there), but he invited her along because he said there was something important he wanted to tell her…?
p3: Yamamura “Eh!?” “You already know who killed Harawaki-san and Kyouko-san, and you’re going to do the deduction!?” “Not Mouri-san, but you!?” Heiji “Yeah… Me and this kid here…” Ran “Conan-kun knows the criminal too?” Conan “N-no!” “I’m just helping out Heiji-niisan!”
both videos were taken 8 years ago – each smartphone was used to record the footage on Harawaki’s tablet, then placed facedown on the floor/chair while continuing to record evidence is difference in Harawaki’s beard and Kyouko’s lipstick/hairstyle/shirt spare toilet roll was used to see the contents of the envelope (by blocking the light so it can’t reflect off the white envelope)
Harawaki’s body is hidden on the cart behind the cupboard drawers, with the same trick that Jouji set up and used to disappear 8 years ago – although it can be done by 1 person, Jouji was unable to push the drawers out and escape, probably because the others moved the cupboard while looking for him
however, the fact that Jouji’s body was found sitting in the room means that someone knew where he was hiding – it’s Ria, who first killed Harawaki then Kyouko (who apparently realised what happened), and used the trick she heard from Jouji 8 years ago
evidence is Ria asking Conan to check under the bed (because he might’ve been able to see Harawaki’s body from his height), and the pause before she screamed when Jouji’s body was found (she was moving the body from the cupboard)
Ria actually hadn’t known that the cupboard was at a position where Jouji couldn’t open it, so his death was an unfortunate incident – but Harawaki found that Jouji had written curses at Ria on the inside of the cupboard with blood, and threatened her with it
Conan stops Ran from sending Heiji and Kazuha off as they’re leaving, because Heiji had something important to say… (translation from Fujiwara at DCTP) p15: Kazuha “Ya had somethin’ important to tell me, right?” Heiji “Kazuha, I’ve been thinkin’ this fer quite a while now… The truth is…” enter zombies (sigh)
#935, last frame: Conan (thinking) “Anyway, I don’t owe him anything now…”
- File 936 Spoiler Summary:
Translation by DCTP user Spimer
Sonoko says she wants to start a girls' band, inspired by a movie she saw last night on the TV. Since she says it ressembles her, Sonoko's in charge of the drums and Ran's put in charge of the bass. Conan: "Ran - neechan's skilled at playing the piano, no?" And so Masumi takes up the bass and Ran is placed in charge of the keyboard.
Sonoko yells that they take part in the city's entertainment contest and win it but... who'll be in charge of the guitar? To try to solve that, they invite Azusa to take part because of her name tie. Azusa argues back that she's got no experience in that and she's not a "girl" anymore. Then a male customer who happened to be there and was a bandman suddenly exclaims: "If ya put on a uniform and train to play the guitar then it'll be a piece of a cake!" "I'll lend ya a guitar: piece of a cake, no? Try it out!"... Sonoko, who was fueled, is about to cry, even. (I think she finds the idea horrible.) Amuro suddenly picks the guitar and lightly plays a song: the male customer shuts up. (Surprised at Amuro's level of skill, that is.) Amuro then refuses the invitation from the girls saying that he doesn't want to stand out any more but he says he will stick along to see their reharsals: and so the group head to a rental studio. Masumi: "Hey, ya... Haven't you and I met... somewhere before?" Amuro: "I think that... today's the first time we've met yet..."
The rental studio's full so the group wait for a room to be freed in the waiting area: about an hour passes. Turns out that Sonoko's only experience with drums is a game named "Drum Master". Masumi can at least play the Do-Re-Mi as she was taught by a friend of her brother yet she doesn't remember having said that it was a man... Amuro...? (Maybe she's asking Amuro why he said that the friend was a man?)
Another girl band who was there is taking a break. It is an all somewhere incronigous, and Someka (one of the members) lets out her annoyance in the other 3 members. Hagie, another member, says she wants to have a light nap and so goes back to the studio. They're about to have a memorial live in memory of a dead member, and Somehana is impertinent in that they must make it be a successs no matter what. Yuiko (yet another member) keeps Someka's jacket because she wants to fix one of Someka's clothes' buttons yet Someka has to re-do her guitar's strings so she stands her ground that she (Yuiko) must wake up Hagie. Rumi (the 4th member) looks like she wants to rework a part of the song so she can't go wake up Hagie.
(In short: the member girls are named Someka, Hagie, Yuiko and Rumi. And there was a 5th member who's already dead).
Sonoko & co., in the meanwhile, want to use a Okino Yoko CD song as cover song yet they don't know who'll do the vocals. Sonoko herself argues that she can't do the drums and the vocals at the same time and Masumi passes as well. "Should we rather ring up Shinichi?", one (or both, not specified) of them suggest. But then Ran remembers that Shinichi's tone deaf. A scream rings out from somewhere in the studio all of a sudden. Conan, Amuro and Masumi rush over there but find Hagie dead with strangulation marks. They check the security camera footage but about half of the screen is blocked by a phone with a selfie stick attached to it. In these conditions they can't tell who did what.
A murder making use of a blind spot...?
Fujiwara's translation of dialogues from pages 8 and 9: Amuro: I can teach you some stuffs Sera: So you can play the bass guitar as well? Amuro: Yup. No guarantee I’m better than your bro’s friend tho Amuro: Do you remember the face of that guy who taught you? Sera: Yeah, more or less Sera: How did you know that it was a guy though? Amuro: Just a feeling…
presumenothing's translation of p13: Sera "How about your boyfriend Shinichi-kun?" Ran "Eh?" Sera "He knows how to play guitar too right?" Ran "S-Shinichi does know how to play the violin..." "But... guitar?" "His singing ability is same as Conan's..." "Isn't it..." Conan (thinking) Really sorry that I'm tone deaf...
- File 937 Spoiler Summary:
Translations by Fujiwara File 937 spoilers: Seeing a guy with a guitar case on his back reminds Sera of Shuuichi. 4 years ago, Masumi caught sight of her bro (Shuu-nii) on a train station platform and followed him, but Shuu-nii noticed her and told her to go home. She lied, saying she had no money and didn’t know how to get home, so he went and bought her a ticket, leaving her waiting there. His acquaintance, meanwhile took the bass guitar out of the case he was carrying and taught her to play a bit. The case in question was a soft case, but it kept standing despite being empty, so maybe it was disguising something…? And then some other guy calls the bass-teaching friend Scotch. She couldn’t see said other guy very well, cause he was wearing a hat, but he kinda looked like Amuro. - File 938 Spoiler Summary:
Title: The Crime in the Blind Spot
Spoiler Translations by presumenothing.tumblr.com
Page 15: Sera “Actually I became a detective… because of my brother’s influence!" Ran "So it’s the smart brother you mentioned during the Red Woman case?" Sera "No, that’s my middle brother!” “The one who influenced me is my eldest brother!” Ran “I remember that your eldest brother passed away already…” Sonoko “Could it be he was a police officer who died in the line of duty?" Sera "Yeah… though he wasn’t a member of the Japan police, but the Federal Bureau of Investigation… an FBI special agent!” “Apparently it really wasn’t easy to get a green card…" Ran "So your brother went to America…" Conan "Say… Is that person’s name…"
Page 16: Sera "His name was Akai Shuuichi!” “Sounds cool, doesn’t it–?" Conan (thinking) "As expected…" Ran "But you saw that brother at a train station in Japan, right?" Sera "Yeah… that’s why I was surprised!" Sonoko "Then that man who taught you bass was from the FBI too…" Sera "No way… he was probably a friend my brother was meeting with when he came back to Japan on vacation, right?”
(following translation from Fujiwara at DCTP!) Amuro (thinking) “No, he’s… an undercover agent… from the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department Public Security Bureau… who was killed by your brother…” last page side note: The antagonism between Amuro and Akai… what exactly happened between them in the past…?
+ case solution, if anyone’s actually been following it: victim was strangled with a thread that was knitted into her hat (under the pom-pom) with the drumsticks – criminal is the keyboardist, who knitted while pretending to edit the scores, controlled the placement of the handphone by moving the keyboard away from the drums, drugged the victim’s drink with sleeping pills, and cut off the pom-pom with the nail clipper (instead of trimming her nails, showing that she wasn’t at all concerned about the performance).
- Episode 797:
This one is going to be a bit varied for most people. It all comes down to whether you like Funachi's character or not. That said, this episode itself differs a lot from the norm and is a bit unconventional due to Funachi's very unusual traits. Also it should be mentioned that the voice actress playing her character has a few prominent roles (mostly known for Madoka in Madoka Magica), so it might be worth checking out if people like her work. I personally found Funachi to be annoying throughout the episode, and there weren't many funny moments, though some people have really enjoyed this one. It's different for an AO, so it's probably worth checking out if you have some spare time.

| A couple quick updates.
File 934 and 935 has been released in English, though I can't find the sub-group responsible. EDIT: 936 has just been released, and it seems like someone is translating from the Vietnamese scans and sub group "Rocketeam". This being said, the translation does seem to match up quite well with the spoiler translations, so I don't really think there are any huge inaccuracies.
We are currently on break for both the anime and manga. 798 will air on Crunchyroll next week, and 939 will mark the start of a new case in the manga on November 16th-18th. We should get news of future Conan surprises this week, or next issue of Shonen Sunday.
The TV special airing on January 9th-16th seems to be split into two parts, and is one hour each. It seems that they probably couldn't do a 2 hour special on a Saturday. No clue if this special will later be available on a DVD as a 2 hour special...
Movie 20 trailer should be released soon after the title reveal in the first Shonen Sunday on December, which is the 2nd. However, text spoilers usually come out on Saturdays, so we could learn of the title on the 28th of November. A trailer should follow soon after the official announcement.

| With it being 20 years, I'm sure there will be a few big reveals. Hard to tell what though. Movie 20 looks like it might end up breaking more records at the box office in Japan. | |

I suppose it depends on what you mean my "big". They say they want to do something special, but really, every couple years they have something they can "celebrate" So far out of the 20 "surprises", nothing has been extraordinary, just a countdown of typical things to better market the upcoming anniversary and movie. I guess we'll see in the coming weeks though. Movie 19 will be a hard one to beat. Kaitou Kid movies usually do quite well, and MK1412 ran from 2014-2015, so that probably helped quite a bit with M19's success. I could definitely see this movie doing it though. I don't think the movie will end up revealing anything significant though.

Nope. Though I suppose it could still follow close to what we expect in canon, or even have a pre-canon reveal like Movie 18...

| The most current case has been translated (936-938), and we are completely up to date with Japan.
The person translating the last several files (934,935,936,937,and 938) goes by "TheWatchfulGent" and will continue to translate until the end of the year. They said 939 would be out a day or so after the Indonesian scan is released. He said he was translating from Indonesian to English (probably initially from Chinese), despite the Vietnamese watermark on the scans.
Mystery Tour episodes also confirmed for Nov 28th and Dec 5th (Dec 5th and Dec 12th on Crunchyroll), so we'll be tied for the longest streak of AOs in a row since 2000. It's possible that unless Kamaitachi airs on Dec 12th/19th, we won't see canon return until at least January 23rd.
The most recent Animal crossing hints: Clover is directed towards Movie 20, and the other three seem to be directed towards the upcoming File (939).
Spade/Shinichi ♤:Next case is the "Department Store" lol Heart/Ran ♡:You did it, Ai-chan and Ayumi-chan♡ Diamond/Haibara ♢:How do I look? I bet you didn't recognize me (υ_υ) Clover/Kaito ♧:FD vs. Mustang! Can't wait to see it~ Translation by シェルリー/Shelury@黒 @Shelury

| File 939 has been released, and it seems that it is Christmas time in Conan (albeit a little early) There seems to be no updates again this week in regards to the 20 surprises. - File 939 Spoiler Summary:
Translations by presumenothing #939 p3: Conan (thinking) "If Sera is Akai-san's younger sister..." "Then why exactly did she return to Japan from America?" "Was it to confirm the news of Akai-san's death?" "So that's why she approached me, because of my dealings with the FBI?" "...if that's the case, she should have looked into me further..." "As expected Sera is connected somehow..." "To that girl around middle school age that she's hiding in the hotel..."
p3, cont: "Her name is most likely Mary..." "She called herself the little sister from outside the domain..." "She greatly resembles Sera..." "No, that's wrong..." "That girl, rather than resembling Sera..." (then he's interrupted by Ai) Ai "What is it?” “Thinking about something?" Conan "Ah, yes, more or less…”
(also yes she stayed up until 4am cockroach-busting)
he blatantly avoids the question when Ai asks him what he's thinking about, as usual (what communication :v)
#939 p7: Makeup lady "Excuse me... where is your mother?" Ai "Dead... she died right after I was born..."
the DB (including Ai =P traitor) are sending pictures of the stuff they want
Genta saw a small-sized person, Mitsuhiko saw quite a large-sized person whose running gait was like a man's, Ayumi saw a lady of average height, a bit taller than Agasa Genta saw the suspect's shirt as grey (like Ai's shirt), Mitsuhiko as dark grey, and Ayumi as a light grey that was close to white
also the reason for Megure&co arriving so early is probably because Conan asked Ai to go report the incident to the reception/info counter
short summary by bash7353 They go to a department store after winning a lottery drawing of sorts, someone is stabbed, Megure shows up, there are three suspects. .

| File 939 is now out in English. Seems like translations have really picked up pace. Let's hope it stays this way! No break next week, so we should see File 940 on Monday, Wednesday at the latest. Updated the Mystery Girl section as well. - File 940 Spoiler Summary:
Translations by Spimer http://forums.dctp.ws/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=13000&p=860915#p860915File 940: Scattered Testimonies Genta, 7th floor: Short person, number "2" on the clothes, clothes are of gray color similar to Haibara's clothes Mitsuhiko, 5th floor: Large build, man-like running style, think grey clothes Ayumi, 4th floor: Normal back, slightly higher than Agasa, bright grey clothes. Woman (somehow). All 3 suspects wear grey clothing but with different logos: the freeter's reads "Beika", the housewife's brooch reads "6" and the chef has the Tokyo Spirits (TS) logo. The cheft's worried about athelete's foot and wants to go back: according to another report, it'd seem they'd had trouble with the victim. The weapon doesn't have fingerprints, none have discarded gloves and none have blood spurts. The DBs then start checking their own testimonies. Genta talked about a basketball club, so they check a sports store: Haido High's came to pick their new uniforms and the clerk took a photo of them. But when Genta rushed through yelling "outta the way!" they couldn't see the culprit. Due to international basketball rules, the numbers 1, 2 and 3 aren't used. So it shouldn't be possible that Genta mistook them as basketball players. Conan checks the photo again: Genta and Ayumi say "it's not a selfie" so they then go to the toy store where Ayumi had her photo taken: they don't want to wait for the elevator so they go down the stairs. There they see another store's clerk carrying a mannequin: Mitsuhiko says he saw the culprit seemed to flee by slipping through a row of them in the 5th floor: but their height is mixed so they can't be used as height comparison: there was a white signboard placed there so Mitsuhiko missed the culprit's face. The toystore clerk had lost a contact on that moment so they couldn't see much of what happened either. Ayumi says that the culprit had stopped in front of the stairs' landing window and was doing a gesture like trying to take off something stuck beneath the left foot. But when Ayumi was about to see the culprit's face she got her view blocked by a bunch of students on a school trip and lost sight of the culprit: she doesn't know what school they belonged to. Nevertheless, Conan looks like he's got an idea of the solution.

| File 942 hasn't been officially released yet, and it'll probably come out Wednesday in both Chinese and Japanese, however, we have got a fairly good text summary of the entire file so far (text spoilers leak on Saturdays). I have more to update to the MG section once 941 and 942 get their English translations as well. - File 942 Spoiler Summary:

Spoiler Summary by Spimer
. Naeko still annoyed at Chiba not remembering her
. Chiba gets sent a mysterious package from a "fan"
. A girl(I think, the name's Hina) comes to Mouri agency and wants him to look for a cigar-shaped UFO. Kogoro motivated because he believes it's related to a Okino Yoko TV program.
. This girl's part of karate club in another school, has lot to Ran several times and nicknames Ran "Overthrow Ran-maru"
. Conan thinks about how Haibara and MG look alike: if they were blood-related then Akai would also be blood related with Haibara
. And, also, some time ago, Akemi and Akai... (Very vague wording: something happened involving the 2 but no details, of course)
. They go to some school where a murder happened: a man named Shibuya got thrown down the stairs
. The back-door isn't locked: there are marks in the concrete painted in the ground of 2 men having collapsed there
. One of the marks is the victim and the other is someone else who's alive but it's said that he only blurts nonsense
. Kogoro remembers having heard news about that: Chiba rushes there in an odd manner like he was breathing by the shoulder
. The package he got had books about health and diet so he's trying them out (maybe Naeko is the sender?)
. The victim is a UFO magazine editor, the other man is a contributor . Both had been seen having an argument half a year ago
. The victim's COD was diagnosed as suffocation: but there was no concrete in the victim's lungs
. He wasn't strangled either: it'd seem like his head was covered with something like a bag but there's no evidence to back that hypothesis
. The contributor's "nonsense" is the following: "An alien got off an UFO, killed the editor while hovering the air, and fled with the UFO!" . Sidenote: "No weapon, and no traces of 3rd party... Let's solve this unusual murder case!"

| Updated the main post. Movie 20 website updated on December 12th. The promo video has changed as well, and they have now cleared up the sludge that was once hiding the text. The movie title is officially called "The Darkest Nightmare" and the new trailer has been added to the website. - Some translations from Spimer:
Trailer translation: Gin: "Don't forget it. Don't forget your fate!" Text: "The stolen secrets" Text: "Detective VS" Text: "Amuro VS" Text: "Akai VS" Conan: "The battle royal suspense over a traitor's fate" Gin: "It's on the move? That guy close to "That Person is on the move?" Conan: "Detective Conan the Movie, The Darkest Nightmare" Conan: "This is bad!" Gin: "Farewell! Be stained in black!" I have also subbed the latest trailer with the help of these translations. Watch it here.Rum's profile translation: Close to That Person. Haibara says it's "the BO's number 2". Name, sex, age, all unknown. It's rumored to have different looks such as "a large man", "a feminized man", and "an aged old man" and that those are body doubles. The only hint is that one of the eyes is a prosthetic... Agasa's quiz from the movie website: "Which is the color that changes during painting without mixing in other colors? A: Red B: Blue C: Brown D: Black"
Episode 802 aired this week as the final part of the Mystery Tour. Episode 803 will air next week and will be the last episode we see until January 16th on Crunchyroll. So enjoy the break, and use this time to catch up! In the previous file, it was revealed, finally after all these years that Chiba does indeed have a first name. As a reference to his VA (despite the kanji being different), Chiba's first name is Kazunobu. Text spoilers for 943 have also been released. - File 943 Spoiler Summary:
. Translations by Spimer
The concrete square was to place an object (a monument) to commemorate Haido High's 50 years . Both the victim and the suspect were hardly stuck and it was hard to free them . One was flat in back, the other was prone . The "accident" happened on October the 4th: an oddly hot day, there was the Haido City Festival . There's a CCTV camera recording: only the victim and the suspect came into the scene . Instead of an accomplice (as speculated by Kogoro) there is a long and narrow odd shadow: could it be the cigar-shaped UFO? . Some days later... . What Chiba talked about the "accident" has been leaked to the net . He's scolded for that because HQ thinks he's the leaker . Chiba seems to be turning skinnier, at least to Sato and Takagi's eyes. Yumi and Naeko seem to be involved. . The actual leaker is Kogoro: he slipped it to a drinking buddy and that buddy posted it on a blog . That asides, the suspect (the publisher) has started a blog as well but Conan finds it odd that he appeals about his tale online instead of telling the police . Conan doesn't understand why the publisher would want to conceal that info, even if he was the culprit . His UFO eyewitness account wasn't recorded (by the police, I guess?) . Instead of trying to figure out if someone in the festival or someone in the stairs from which Shibuya - sensei was pushed from saw the UFO, Conan decides to go to the publisher's house and ask him in person . Once in there (along with Chiba, Kogoro and Ran) the publisher makes them wait because he argues the room was messy . Conan stacks up one or more chairs and opens a cupboard: there's a black plastic bag and addhesive ape casually packed there . Kogoro drags him away and Conan asks Ran to call Hina: the UFO she saw was colored black .Side note: the unusual murder and the UFO are linked!? Next issue, the resolution!
- My impressions on some of the latest episodes:
798 - Didn't care for it, but there were some little bits of humor that made it enjoyable. The opening scene was so over the top even for movie standards... Watch it to see what I mean...
799 - Another Detective Boys case. The way they animated the "mystery shadow" was funny, but other than that, really forgettable and silly case.
800 - I liked this case. It was a bit better than average imo, and I liked the mystery aspect of it. It wasn't particularly "good" but I thought the case trick was okay for an AO.
801 - This is the first part of our yearly Mystery Tour... and it's not bad. However, the "mystery" isn't great, and the second part of the tour kind of ruined it for me.
802 - So we're just going to write off attempted murder now? Anyways, I didn't like the second part of the mystery tour. The ending was kind of a cliche Kogoro scene that we've seen too often, and the "mystery" aspect of the episode really isn't that interesting. Another typical AO...

| Text spoilers for 945 has been released, and a majority of the panels have been uploaded to a blog "somewhere". The full file should be released in Chinese today. Translations by DCTP user Spimer - File 945 Spoiler Summary:
Title: Unkind mister Cover image: A marriage registration with only Kudo Shinichi's name written on it behind Conan
. Yumi and Naeko off-duty day. On street TV article it says Shuukichi is going to face the last battle to defend the 7 crowns . Yumi realizes she hadn't thought of Shuukichi like that, realizes the meaning of "once I've got the 7" and recalls that the envolope was used by her as a bookmark in a fashion magazine which she threw . They go to the garbage spot but it's already been collected: knowing Shuukichi's personality she can't possibly ask for him to write it again . DBs show up: Conan says that today doesn't seem to be recyclable waste day so maybe the manager's sorted it out . They go to Yumi's house and find a bundle of magazines that have been returned: they go over them but they can't find the envelope . Mitsuhiko asks what she's looking for and she rather replies in a rather threatening manner "100 million Yen!" . Since Yumi had said "some kind of important envelope" then Haibara says "That famed envelope with the marriage registration on it": it looks Yumi's the only one who hasn't noticed what the envelope is about . Yumi goes to speak with the manager who doesn't seem to call her "Chacha" because he likes it . "I'm sure you're an evil woman who'll water down the Taiko (Meijin)!" . Back when Shuukichi was a middle-school student, the manager tried to challenge him to defeat him but he got defeated instead . Afterwards he became a fan and encouraged Shuukichi . He took a photo of what was inside the envolope with his smartphone because he assumed Yumi wouldn't care: it was in the garbage, after all . Shuukichi's now at 3 wins 3 loses: a reply to his engagement hasn't come yet and his morale doesn't increase or they get told . Shuukichi's currently annoyed at Yumi . Turns out the manager set up an unkind trap by constantly saying "If what Yumi thinks of you is true then she has to show it to you" to Shuukichi. . Conan turns out the manager's PC he gets asked a password and can only get wrong 1 time . So they (maybe he and the DBs?) begin to rummage the room... Side-note: Genta's found a paper with something written on it: some kind of code?
Here's my thoughts on some of the recent anime originals... 798: This episode has a couple gimmicks that would make it somewhat enjoyable. It has one of the most ridiculous opening scenes you'll ever see in the anime... It's a fairly average Detective Boys episodes with a "unique" case. 799: This is a rather boring episode. Aside from one certain comedic bit (which is kind of a throwback to Episode 4 in some ways), it really isn't worth watching. 800: I liked the mystery bit of this case, and felt it was reasonably good for a one-part AO. I'd recommend giving this one a whirl. 801-802: This year's mystery tour wasn't utterly disappointing, in fact, I liked the first part quite a bit but it kind of waned on me after that. It's a lot better than the previous years, so I felt it was at the very least, decent, even if the "mystery" part of the tour wasn't great. 803: Probably one of the worst of the recent AOs. It was really bland, the case wasn't interesting, and there wasn't really any saving grace. I'd skip this one.

Text Spoiler Translations from bash7353, and Spimer of DCTP
The Gripped Scissors
Conan and Haibara research Haneda Kouji's death at Agasa's place. On the same day and in the same hotel as Kouji a wealthy person Amanda died as well. At that time Amanda's bodyguard was suspected, but his whereabouts and identity were unknown.
That means that 17 years ago the APTX4869 poison already existed. How old Ai is, Conan asks. Ai insists that she is 18. The drug was created by collecting what was left behind of her parents' research and reviving their work. And while it seems she made a different drug, but she fails to mention it here.
Returning to the case, they discover an image of a broken hand mirror. It was a cosmetics company's promotional article with 'PUT ON MASCARA' written on it, but only the letters 'P T ON' were left. In addition to a defence wound on Kouji's arm, there are traces of him tightly gripping scissors. When Conan says that, Agasa remembers anther case concerning scissors. At his own discretion Okiya comes by with meat and potato stew and suggests to go there together. Okiya who Ai is suspicious of asked Camel who is elsewhere to be "her (Ai's?) bodyguard".
At the crime scene the body remained unchanged. Near it is a mop, despite the victim apparently having gripping scissors. Glass cups are lying around and there are blood stains belonging to the first discoverer.
There were people holding a grudge against the victim which is why there are two bodyguards. A body search revealed that the first discoverer didn't have anything on them that could have been used as a weapon, at the time of the discovery the victim was already dead. Right now, the first discoverer's wounds are tended to by a policewoman.
When they confirm that the water tab had been left open, Okiya says that the case resembles one regarding Haneda Kouji. ■What is it that's concealed in the past Akai Shuuichi talks about?
Translations from presumenothing.tumblr.com
p2: 17 years ago, Kouji, who held 4 shogi titles at the time, went to America for the chess competition. But on the day before the competition, he was attacked by someone unknown in his hotel room and died. The room was quite a mess, it appears that Kouji fought back, and his cause of death is unknown. Amanda Hughes, who was in the same hotel, died in another room on the same day, COD also unknown
p3: Amanda had been a big fan of Kouji and had interacted with him before. Amanda's bodyguard, whom she called "Asaka", disappeared since that day and was thus the prime suspect. "Asaka's" real identity is still unknown, and no one seems to know how Amanda ended up hiring him p3, cont: Haibara hasn't heard of Asaka, but she thinks the possibility of him having been an Org member is high
p3-4: Conan points out it's weird for Kouji's name to be 2 below his. Haibara says the person in charge of the data probably didn't arrange it by chronological order, but possibly by the victims' blood types instead. Conan asks Haibara how old she is, if the drug he was given existed 17 years ago. Haibara "That's rude, I've told you, haven't I? I'm 18..."
p4: Haibara says the drug may have been made by her parents, because she remade the drug by collecting the burned remains of the data. Her parents' research facility caught fire, which both destroyed the drug data and killed her parents, though she heard that it was an accident from others in the BO
p4: Haibara's thought "But, what they truly wanted me to make..." "Was another drug..."
p4: Haibara speculates that Kouji was killed for coincidentally witnessing Amanda's murder, apparently Amanda had some sort of connections (? not sure what exactly) to the FBI and CIA. Fingerprints confirm that Amanda had been to Kouji's room, probably to have tea
p5: among the wreckage in the room is the broken mirror with P T ON, Haibara suggests that the PUT ON MASCARA, which a manufacturer had been printing on mirrors to sell with their mascara. Her sister also had one of those mirrors, which belonged to her mother
p5-6: Haibara is disturbed by the messy state of the room, since the BO wouldn't have left it like that. In fact, Amanda's room had been made to look like nothing happened, as per their usual MO.
p6: the bathroom tap in Kouji's room was left running. Conan says someone seems to have been regularly uploading the case info online, as if asking for help to solve the mystery.
p7: Kouji's right hand bear marks of having tightly gripped the small scissors provided in the room, which reminds Agasa of a murder that happened this morning. The victim was gripping a pair of scissors Agasa invented, so Megure asked him to go to the scene
p8: Okiya (along with his extra nikujaga...) asks to go to the scene with them, saying that there's something about the case that attracted his notice.
p8: Okiya then says it's alright if Haibara doesn't go, since she can watch the house by herself. Haibara asks if he's leaving her to eat bad cooking alone Okiya: Not at all..." "I'm just not good at cooking that dish, that's all..."
p9: Okiya calls Camel while leaving the house, requesting that he protect her
p11: victim is president of a real estate company, killed by blunt force trauma, and found holding one of Agasa's scissors
p12: the glass shards on the floor of the room have patterns and lettering on them, and seems to match another glass on the bathroom counter
p13-4: Conan notices blood on the glass shards near the doorway, but it turns out to be the first discoverer's blood.
p16: Okiya asks Takagi if the tap had been left running, and Takagi confirms it
p16: Okiya (thinking) "So it's as I expected..." Conan "Hey, Akai-san..." "This case... is there something wrong about it?" Okiya "You've noticed it too, haven't you, kid?" "It's far too similar..." "To the case where Haneda Kouji was killed... 17 years ago..." "The one that forced me to join the FBI..." "That case..." NB the Chinese translator used 迫使 here, which is forced/coerced according to my dictionary
Also, the last few episodes in the anime have been fairly enjoyable thus far. The two specials lived up to my expectations and were rather solid AO episodes. They feature a guest star "Ichikawa Ebizo" who was rather likable, and the case had a decent mystery. The comedy was essentially the highlight of the episodes for me, but I felt it had good pacing and was overall entertaining. Episode 806 on the other hand... Is another "quirky" episode, rather similar to the Comedian episode we got awhile back. The mystery in this case is well... rather obvious, but there are some salvageable aspects of the episode, mainly the jokes and concept. I think it's worth a watch. Crunchyroll also airs episodes on Wednesdays @ 3PM EST for premium users, just 4 days after Japan... so this is a huge change. 807 will come out Wednesday, my fear for that episode is that it will really feel dragged out, since I can definitely tell who the culprit is and have a gist of how they did it. Canon will return with episode 808, the following week. If you haven't caught up, getting there before Feb 17th is a good option as the series will have some important/exciting cases soon.

Last time was October 3rd. After episode 793 everything has been an anime original. We broke the record of most AOs in a row (previous record was 9 back in 2000). We've had 14 in a row, 16 if you include the remasters. Not to mention a 3 week break starting in December... It truly has been forever. I imagine this has to do with Gosho's hospitalization, which put the manga on hold, and they didn't want the anime to catch up. Though with Episode 808, 809, 810, and 811, things are going to change. 812 isn't confirmed yet, but given Kawanakajima is 5 files, 812 should be a plot based episode too (assuming it's 3 parts).
